Hunger Action Month Feed It Forward
September is Hunger Action Month™ —the Feeding America network's annual nationwide campaign designed to inspire people to take action and raise awareness of hunger in the United States.
Food shouldn't be an impossible choice. For millions of people in America, a daily meal isn't a choice between different dishes. It's a choice between food and other crucial needs—like medicine, electricity, or childcare.
You have a choice. Choose to help end hunger by donating, fundraising, volunteering, learning about hunger in your community, or advocating for food assistance.

Hunger Action Month Activities:
All Month Long: Help us Grow Healthy Futures!
Growing Healthy Futures: Sponsored by MathWorks benefits all of GBFB's children and family hunger-relief initiatives, ensuring students have access to enough healthy food. Our collective efforts will sustain and bolster the GBFB network and allow communities most impacted by the pandemic to re-emerge stronger.
All Month Long: The Stop Hunger Now Charity License Plate
Featuring a traffic light made of healthy fruits and vegetables, the Stop Hunger Now charity license plate is the first-ever Massachusetts specialty plate that supports ending hunger in the state. By purchasing a plate, you are helping GBFB and Boston Medical Center (BMC), in partnership with Citizens, tackle food insecurity through programs that increase access to affordable, nutritious food. Learn how to pre-order your plate.
All Month Long: High Street Place Food Hall round up program
High Street Place, a modern food hall located on 100 High Street in Boston, has committed to holding a "round up at the register" program in which customers may round up to the nearest dollar and donate the change to GBFB. Twenty food and beverage vendors will participate. Contact Carlen Singmaster, Senior Events Manager, at csingmaster@gbfb.org for more information.
All Month Long: The Helping Menu program
Participating restaurants add a simple item to their menu – an appetizer and/or and entrée. The difference? The items aren't an actual appetizer or entrée, rather a donation to the Greater Boston Food Bank. Reached in an unexpected and creative way, guests simply "order" the "appetizer" or "entrée" and the donation is made to the Food Bank. Contact Carlen Singmaster, Senior Events Manager, at csingmaster@gbfb.org for more information.
Tuesday, September 6: Massachusetts Primary Elections
Your vote counts! Find resources to check your voter registration status, update address, register to vote, see a sample ballot, and more. Out of town on 9/6/22? Learn about early voting. The Massachusetts General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 8th.
Friday, September 16 and Sunday, September 18: Red Sox Strike Out Hunger
We're partnering with the Boston Red Sox for a two-day fundraiser at Fenway Park on September 16 and 18. In our 30th year of Strike Out Hunger with the Red Sox families, we'll be raising funds before and during each game to support our neighbors in need across Eastern Massachusetts. Buy your tickets today or contact Carlen Singmaster, Senior Events Manager, at csingmaster@gbfb.org if you'd like to volunteer. Can't make it to the game? You can still donate.
Thursday, September 22: WCVB Virtual Fundraiser
Tune in to WCVB Channel 5 on Thursday, September 22 to learn more about how GBFB and our partners are serving families in need across Eastern Massachusetts, hosted by Karen Holmes Ward. Be part of this fundraising event and donate today.
Friday, September 23: Hunger Action Day®
Hunger Action Day® is a time for hunger relief advocates to focus our efforts on one day for greater impact. On this day, join Boston landmarks and GBFB in going orange – the national color of hunger. Post a selfie on social media to show support and generate awareness (tag @Gr8BosFoodBank and use the hashtags #EndHungerHere or #HungerActionMonth)! Do you know a building or landmark that should go orange on Hunger Action Day? Please reach out to Public Policy Manager, Kate Adams at kadams@gbfb.org for more information.
Wednesday, September 28: White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health
More to come on GBFB watch party of this event!
Want to increase awareness of hunger in your city or town? Encourage your mayor to issue a proclamation to declare September Hunger Action Month™!
